Our dog tags are of sterling silver, two tags as the military wear, one on a long silver chain for wearing around the neck, the second on a shorter silver chain, attached to the first. This is street jewellery as worn by fashionbable young people in many parts of the world.

The necklace, i.e. both tags and chain, is manufactured using 925 hallmarked silver which signifies that the silver is 92.5% pure silver, also known as sterling silver. The remaining 7.5% is made up of a variety of jewellery grade metals to allow the finished metal to be sufficiently malleable for metalworking and jewellery manufacture.
When worn by soldiers, airmen, sailors etc these two dog tags will each contain the personal details of the serviceman or woman including service number, name, blood group, religion and any known medical conditions that may affect battlefield emergency treatment. If the wearer is a casualty the second tag would be detached and passed back to the authorities for records purposes whilst the main tag would remain with the body for identification.
