The range and variety of single malt whiskies is very extensive: some are smooth and fruity, others peaty and powerful, some almost medicinal and tasting of the sea. Each single malt whisky has its own unique character and devotees but how does the novice Scotch (or Welsh or English or Irish) whisky drinker choose and decide what they like? It can be an expensive business with full bottles ranging from around £20 up to many hundreds of pounds, particularly if the chosen variety is not to their liking.
We are delighted to offer a solution that will suit most pockets and allow an informed choice to be made by the future whisky drinker. We have a range of whisky tasting sets that include some rare and unusual whiskies as well as some more mainstrream varieties of single malt scotch, specially bottled as miniatures.
This is our Old and Rare Scotch Whisky Tasting Gift Set featuring five rare malts from closed or silent distilleries that are rapidly disappearing. Ideal for anyone who wants to experience the Scotch whisky industry's history, this gift set offers a unique opportunity to enjoy some of Scotland's oldest and rarest whiskies, from very old casks and revered long lost distilleries.
The set includes a 1964 vintage Dumbarton 46 year old Single Grain whisky from Douglas Laing's Clan Denny range of full strength single casks, as well as one of the world's most sought-after single malts; a sherry-matured Port Ellen from 1983 - the same year this world-renowned distillery ended production.
The set also includes the Gold Medal winner from whisky magazine's independent whisky challenge, a 38 year old Glenallachie single malt (also Sherry matured), plus a 21 year old Rosebank - another sadly closed distillery which was widely regarded as Scotland's best lowland whisky. The set is complete with a rare 1977 vintage 34 year old Glenlivet single malt.
Total 30ml.
Tasting cards give detailed information on each whisky and are presented in a neat pocket-envelope which may be kept as a keepsake. The set also includes a whisky tasting mat, themed with a beautiful landscape or distillery scene, providing the perfect place to place the whiskies for tasting and for recording personal tasting notes.
This tasting set perfectly illustrates the lost excellence of scotch whiskies that were produced in some of Scotland's finest distilleries, sadly closed.
These whiskies are in short and diminishing supply.
