If he is a fan of Blackadder he is sure to appreciate this chainmail coif, as worn by Edmund in the first series. Alternatively, if a Monty Python fan he will surely recognise the headgear worn by those seeking the Holy Grail and appearing in Spamalot. Just about every movie based in the Middle Ages features kings and noblemen wearing a chainmail coif, including Richard the Lionheart, various Henrys and Edwards, Arthur, Ivanhoe, The Sherriff of Nottingham, plus TV shows such as Merlin.
This is a wearable replica chainmail coif, suitable for Larpers, stage wear, re-enactments and collectors alike.
Strictly speaking a coif is a close-fitting hat worn from the middle ages up until the 17th Century as well as part of the armour worn in battle. The close-fitting chain mail was designed to resist the thrust of a sword and most arrows although the trade-off was of course weight. It was designed to be worn when approaching battle, prior to putting on the full helmet which severely restricted both movement and vision. The chain mail allowed the wearer much greater mobility, agility and vision.
